2–4 hours · We come to you
We meet you at a wild place—chosen by us, or a public space you have in mind—and walk it together, hunting for what's in season and learning to see the forest differently.
Best for: Foragers and curious folks at every level, in groups of 1 to 15.
Starting at $198
1h 45m or half-day · 2 expert guides

We'll meet you somewhere wild—a location we love and know intimately, or a public space you've been curious about—and spend the next hour and forty-five minutes (or longer, if you've booked the half-day) walking, looking, and learning together. Whether you've never noticed a mushroom in your life or you've been bringing home chanterelles for years, we shape the experience around what you're hoping to learn.
These walks are slow, generous, and a little bit magical. Two of us, two licensed wild mushroom experts, focused entirely on your group. We carry the knowledge—you bring the curiosity.
Best for: The deepest learning, the most personal pace
Best for: Partners, families, close friends
Best for: Birthdays, small teams, multi-gen groups
Best for: Larger groups and corporate outings
This is for the landowner who's wondered. The one with five acres or fifty, with a back wood or a side meadow or a strip of swamp, who's suspected for years there might be something out there—but didn't know how to look, or what for.
We come to you. We walk it with you—for at least two hours, longer if your land calls for it (up to four). We assess soil and light and water and forest type. We identify the mushrooms and plants that are already there. We tell you what's safe, what's edible, and what's worth waiting for next season, and the season after that.
You leave with a personalized Private Property Report—a map of our route together, marked with every waypoint where we found something worth knowing about.

2 to 4 hours · Up to 6 people on the property with us
A 50% deposit confirms your date. The remaining 50% is due 48 hours before your experience. Once your booking is confirmed, we'll send you everything you need—where to meet, what to wear, what to bring.
Deposits are nonrefundable, but life happens. We'll reschedule within the same season at no additional cost, with at least 7 days' notice.
We forage rain or shine—some of our best days are gray ones. If conditions are genuinely unsafe (severe storms, lightning, high winds, ice), we'll reach out to reschedule at no charge.
We confirm final headcount 7 days before your experience. If your group grows, we'll move you to the appropriate tier. If it shrinks, your booked tier holds.

A signed waiver is required for all participants before your experience. We'll send it with your booking confirmation.
For summer and fall (our busiest months), three to four weeks ahead is ideal—earlier is even better. We book a limited number of private experiences each season. May, late October, and November tend to have more flexibility.
Yes. Many of our most joyful experiences include children, and we love teaching young foragers. We adapt pace, content, and language to your group. If you'd like an experience specifically built around a child's curiosity, just tell us when you inquire.
Sturdy closed-toe shoes you don't mind getting muddy. Long pants and long sleeves (forest floors have things that bite). Water. Bug spray in summer. We'll send you a full list when you book.
Yes. Both of us hold Multi-State Wild Mushroom Food Safety Certifications, and Saratoga Wild Roots carries liability insurance for all guided experiences.
Often, yes. If you have a public space in mind, let us know when you inquire—we'll confirm whether it's safe, legal to forage on, and ecologically appropriate. If you'd rather we choose, we'll bring you somewhere we know intimately.
Sometimes. Drop us a note with your location and we'll let you know what's possible and what additional travel might cost.
We forage in light rain, fog, and cool temperatures—those are some of our favorite conditions. If we judge the weather genuinely unsafe (severe storms, lightning, high winds, ice), we'll reach out to reschedule.
Yes—anything we identify as safe and edible on a Mini Foraging Experience is yours to take home. On a Property Tour, what's on your land has always been yours; we just help you see it.
None at all. We've taught complete beginners and we've taught people who've been foraging for decades. We meet you where you are.
Deposits are nonrefundable, but rescheduling within the same season is free with at least 7 days' notice. For weather-related cancellations on our end, we'll reschedule at no charge.
